چکیده

The geometry of the inner accretion flow in hard and hard-intermediate states X-ray binaries remains controversial. Using NICER observations black hole binary MAXI J1820+070 during rising phase its 2018 outburst, we study evolution timing properties, particular characteristic variability frequencies prominent iron K$\alpha$ line. frequency-resolved spectroscopy, find that reflection occurs at large distances from Comptonizing region bright state. During hard- to soft transition, properties suggest reflector moves closer source. In parallel, peak line shifts 6.5 ~7 keV, becoming consistent with expected a highly inclined disc extending close hole. We additionally significant changes dependence root-mean-square (rms) on both energy Fourier frequency as source softens. rms-energy dependence, profile, traced by spectroscopy all support picture truncated disc/inner geometry.

Binary black hole spectroscopy

Abstract We study parameter estimation with post-Newtonian (PN) gravitational waveforms for the quasicircular, adiabatic inspiral of spinning binary compact objects. In particular, the performance of amplitude-corrected waveforms is compared with that of the more commonly used restricted waveforms, in Advanced LIGO and EGO. With restricted waveforms, the properties of the source can only be ext...

Black hole growth by accretion

We show that black holes grow substantially by accretion at close to Eddington rates. Using a complete sample of soft X-ray selected AGNs, Grupe & Mathur (2004) have shown that narrow line Seyfert 1 galaxies, as a class, lie below the MBH–σ relation of normal galaxies. Some NLS1s, however, lie on or close to the MBH–σ relation. Here we show that not all NLS1s accrete at close to Eddington rates...

Binary Black Hole Accretion Flows in Merged Galactic Nuclei

We study the accretion flows from the circumbinary disks onto the supermassive binary black holes in a subparsec scale of the galactic center , using a smoothed particles hydrodynamics (SPH) code. Simulation models are presented in four cases of a circular binary with equal masses and unequal masses, and of an eccentric binary with equal masses and unequal masses. We find that the circumblack-h...

Excitation of low-frequency QPOs in black hole accretion

We study possible mechanisms of excitation of quasiperiodic oscillations in the accretion flow of black hole accreters in their hard spectral states, in the context of the ‘truncated disk’ model. Quasi-spherical oscillations of the inner ion-supported accretion flow (ISAF) can be excited by the interaction of this hot flow with the cool disk extending outward from it. The fundamental mode of (p...

Black hole accretion.

Black holes are most often detected by the radiation produced when they gravitationally pull in surrounding gas, in a process called accretion. The efficiency with which the hot gas radiates its thermal energy strongly influences the geometry and dynamics of the accretion flow. Both radiatively efficient thin disks and radiatively inefficient thick disks are observed. When the accreting gas get...
